KITARAN is a youth-led organisation and a passionate advocate for responsible waste disposal. We aim to create a more circular economy through our engagements with local communities.

KITARAN was a platform to tackle plastic pollution directly. Using the Precious Plastic project, we made a MICRO-RECYCLING workspace that involves everyone and anyone as we all play a part in this war against plastic pollution.

Recycling or reusing waste on a smaller scale rather than depending on recycling centres to sort out our waste. Using our own creativity to seek solutions on how to reuse waste and make them into something new, useful and less polluting.

How We Do It

Turning Trash into Treasure!

Here at KITARAN, we aim to give new life to your plastic waste by turning them into something new, useful and fun. We also want to be transparent with our supporters on how we are able to do what we do.

We have simple yet important steps into ensuring each item we create turns out as best as it can be. To make it a more streamlined process for us and the volunteers, we set up different stations to fully understand the importance of each step during the entire process of micro-recycling.

Station 2: Snipping & Shredding

We snip the plastic waste into smaller pieces to make it easier to put into our shredder.

Our shredder then shreds the plastic waste into plastic flakes to be able to be easily melted in our injecting machine.

Station 3: Melting & Injecting

The plastic flakes collected from our shredding machine are then fed into our injecting machine to be melted at a high temperature so we can inject the molten plastic into our mould to create the items we have such as charms, carabiners, etc.

Station 4: Finishing

Once we open up the mould to reveal the new plastic product. We then remove it and add some finishing touches to them to perfect them further and it can be used immediately.
